Fr. Jeremiah J. Reilly Council, the Biggest
Little Council on Long Island,
is a Knights of Columbus Council serving the parishes of Sacred Heart (North Merrick) and Curé of Ars
(Merrick),
The Knights of Columbus is an international
Catholic family fraternal service organization with nearly 1.7
million members in more than 12,500 local councils. In the
past decade, the Knights donated nearly $1 billion to numerous
charitable causes and nearly 400 million hours of volunteer service.
Last year alone, the Knights donated
nearly $130 million and
60
million volunteer hours to charitable causes. In many Catholic parishes, a good number of the men who are active and
involved are Knights.
Our order was founded on March 29, 1882 by Father Michael J. McGivney to provide financial
assistance for widows and orphans of deceased parishioners. It has grown to an
international order which provides support for our Church and charities, and meets
its original objective through its highly rated insurance company.
The Knights of Columbus are dedicated to four principles: Charity, Unity, Fraternity
and Patriotism. Charity is the first principle of our order.
