Young hoopsters braved the frigid cold and impending blizzard and flocked to the Birch School as Fr. Jeremiah J. Reilly Council sponsored the annual Knights of Columbus International Free Throw Contest. The talented group of sharpshooters battled it out for the honor of going on to represent our Council and community in district and county shoot-outs.

This year’s champions were Allison Tamney, Megan Vasquez, Blake Lippman, Ava Fitzgerald, Tim Downey, and Ian Stone.  Familiar faces were again in evidence, as Megan and Allison are repeat champions and both Megan and Tim follow in the footsteps of siblings who had been champs!  A great time was had by all!  Along with the fun, funds were raised to help the tsunami victims.

The District competition was held on February 5th at St. Raphael’s.  Megan Vasquez and Ian Stone triumphed and moved on to the County Championship, which was held on March 5th at the Rockville Centre Recreation Center.  Megan was victorious and continues her drive toward the State Championship!

Nadine Vasquez (now on the Fordham basketball team!) was a State Champion,
and Brian Downey was a winner last year!
